The Volga Design System is a comprehensive and meticulously crafted design system that I developed independently to address the lack of a clear design language across multiple websites and products within my company.

Recognising the need for a unified approach, I undertook this project during my free time, driven by the desire to establish a consistent design language that could be implemented across all digital touch points.

The name "Volga" draws inspiration from the river, symbolising the seamless flow and cohesion that the design system aims to bring to the company's digital ecosystem.

Prior to the Volga Design System, the company struggled with inconsistent design aesthetics, interaction patterns, and user interface elements across different websites and products. This lack of cohesion created confusion among users and hindered brand recognition and collaboration among teams.

Drawing inspiration from renowned design languages like Carbon, Atlassian, and Material Design, I set out to create the Volga Design System as a solution to these challenges. Leveraging the capabilities of Webflow, a powerful web design and development platform, I meticulously crafted a visually appealing and highly functional design system that covered various aspects of design, including colours, typography, icons, interactions, and patterns.

The Volga Design System is fully responsive, ensuring a seamless user experience across different devices and screen sizes. It serves as a comprehensive guide, providing clear instructions on how to implement design elements consistently across all websites and products within the company.

As the sole contributor to the Volga Design System, I took on a comprehensive role, from recognising the lack of a design language within the company to actively developing and implementing the entire design system. From start to finish, I led the project, ensuring a unified design language to be used across future  websites and products.

My Main focus were:

  • Consistency: Assess the level of consistency achieved in terms of visual aesthetics, interaction patterns, and user interface elements across different websites and products.
  • Usability: Evaluate the ease of use, intuitiveness, and efficiency of the design system, focusing on navigation, information architecture, and overall user experience.
  • Adaptability: Determine the extent to which the design system accommodates the needs of various teams and products while maintaining its core principles.
  • Visual appeal: Assess the visual attractiveness and cohesiveness of the design system, considering color palettes, typography, icons, and overall aesthetics.
  • Impact: Measure the perceived impact of the design system on productivity, collaboration, and efficiency in the organisation.
