The focus of this project was to design app for a local veterinary clinic, enabling pet owners to effortlessly register their beloved companions, explore services, and conveniently schedule appointments for their pets.

As part of this UX design study, I was assigned the task of developing a user-friendly app for a veterinary clinic. The key objective was to create an intuitive app that caters to the needs of pet owners.

Throughout the project, I encountered several challenges that required thoughtful consideration and strategic planning. One of the primary hurdles involved comprehending the motivations that would drive users to register their pets on the app. Additionally, I aimed to identify and communicate the benefits that the platform could offer to pet owners.

By addressing these challenges and implementing effective strategies, I successfully designed an app that meets the needs of both the veterinary clinic and pet owners. The platform now offers a seamless experience for registering pets, browsing services, and scheduling appointments, ultimately improving the overall user experience within the veterinary industry.

Conducting User Research:

• Extensively researched the target audience to gain valuable insights into their needs, preferences, and pain points.

• Conducted user interviews, surveys, and usability tests to gather user feedback and understand their expectations.

Creating Cohesive Brand Identity:

• Developed a consistent and compelling brand identity that aligns with the veterinary clinic's values and resonates with the target audience.

• Crafted a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that reflects the brand's personality and enhances the overall user experience.

Producing Low- and High-Fidelity Wireframes:

• Created low-fidelity wireframes to quickly explore different layout and content placement options.

• Developed high-fidelity wireframes to showcase the visual design, interactions, and content hierarchy of the app.

Performing Testing Process:

• Conducted usability testing sessions with representative users to identify pain points, gather feedback, and validate design decisions.

• Iterated on the design based on user insights to improve usability and user satisfaction.

Designing Professional Mockups:

• Designed polished and visually engaging mockups that reflect the final look and feel of the app.

• Ensured consistency in typography, color palette, and visual elements across all screens.

During the research phase of the project, I conducted interviews and surveys with a diverse group of pet owners.

The aim was to gather insights and understand their knowledge and behaviour regarding their pets. The following questions were asked:

  1. How much do they know about their pet's species?
  2. How much do they know about specific diseases and prevention measures for their pet's species?
  3. How familiar are they with their pet's dietary requirements?
  4. How frequently do they take their pet for check-ups?

The answers provided valuable information and deepened my understanding of what would motivate users to utilise the app and register their pets. By gaining insights into pet owners' knowledge levels and behaviours, I was able to tailor the design and content of the website to address their specific needs and concerns effectively.

Based on the research results, I have identified two main archetypes that represent the target users of the pet registration app. These archetypes help me focus on addressing their specific pain points and needs. Let me introduce you to Erik and Fiona:

Erik

Erik is a new pet owner who recently had his cat undergo an operation, requiring medication and constant observation for at least three weeks. Being his first pet, Erik lacks knowledge and guidance on how to properly care for his cat in this specific situation. His pain points include:

  • Unable to contact the vet every time his cat exhibits unusual behaviour or concerns.
  • Reliance on various sources on the internet, which provide conflicting opinions and solutions, leading to confusion about the appropriate course of action.
I feel very confused about whose advice to follow and what steps to take next. I need guidance.

Fiona

Fiona's job involves frequent travel across the country, making it challenging for her to personally take her dog, Iago, to the vet. As a result, her father primarily cares for the dog's health. Fiona's pain points include:

  • Difficulty staying updated with her dog's medication requirements since she is not always the primary caregiver.
  • Struggling to manage and keep track of all the notes and medications her dog needs throughout the day. Moreover, handing over these notes to her father becomes complicated due to her work-related travels.
I need a solution that helps me stay updated and organised with my dog's health, despite my busy schedule.

By understanding the pain points and personal statements of Erik and Fiona, I can design specific features and functionalities on the app that address their needs and provide them with the necessary support and guidance in managing their pets' health effectively.

Based on the research findings, it became evident that many pet owners lacked sufficient knowledge about their animals' health. To tackle this issue and establish trust in the veterinary clinic, I made a crucial decision to incorporate a Content Management System (CMS) section on the app. This dedicated section would offer valuable information about specific species, including prevention measures, dietary requirements, and common diseases. The primary goal is to empower new pet owners with the necessary knowledge to understand their animals better and make informed decisions about their health.

By implementing the CMS section, the app will provide the following benefits:

Improved Education and Awareness:
Pet owners, especially newcomers, will have access to comprehensive information about their specific species.
They can learn about preventive measures to ensure their pets' well-being and understand their dietary needs.
Detailed descriptions of common diseases will enable pet owners to identify potential health issues and take appropriate action.

Enhanced Decision-Making:
Armed with accurate information, pet owners can make informed decisions regarding their pets' health.
They will be able to evaluate different treatment options and understand the importance of preventive care.
The CMS section will offer guidance on when to seek veterinary assistance, ensuring timely intervention.

Trust and Credibility:
By providing reliable and authoritative information, the veterinary clinic establishes itself as a trusted source of knowledge and expertise.
Pet owners will perceive the clinic as a reliable partner in their pets' health journey, fostering long-term trust and loyalty.

To create the CMS section, I collaborated with subject matter experts and veterinarians to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the provided information. The content is structured in a user-friendly manner, allowing pet owners to easily navigate and find the information they need.

Overall, the inclusion of a dedicated CMS section on the app will bridge the knowledge gap among pet owners, empowering them to become more proactive in caring for their pets' health while building trust in the veterinary clinic as a reliable source of information and support.

During the ideation phase of the project, I explored various design concepts to create wireframes that would effectively address the needs of pet owners and enhance their experience on the app.

I made improvements to the pet registration process by reducing the number of form fields and creating a step-by-step interface to guide users through each stage. This makes registration easier and encourages more people to sign up.

I also added a section to provide detailed information about the veterinary clinic's services, such as descriptions, pricing, and availability. The layout is clean and visually appealing, making it simple for users to explore and compare services.

To help users schedule appointments, I developed a seamless feature that allows them to choose preferred dates, times, and veterinarians. I integrated a calendar system and set up automated reminders via email or SMS to make sure appointments are not missed.

For pet owners, I designed a personalized dashboard where they can access their pet's health records, medication history, and upcoming appointments. The dashboard is visually engaging and easy to navigate, highlighting important information and providing quick access to necessary actions.

I also added a knowledge hub section with educational articles, videos, and FAQs to empower pet owners with relevant knowledge. The interface is visually appealing, user-friendly, and includes browsing and search functionality for easy access to informative resources.

All these changes were made based on careful consideration of user pain points identified during research. I focused on simplicity, visual appeal, ease of use, and clear communication of information. Next, I will conduct user testing and gather feedback to further refine the designs and ensure they meet the project's goals for the pet registration app.

PetHeaven

This project is a pet registration app for a local veterinary, designed to make it easy for pet owners to register their pets, keep track of their medical history, and schedule appointments online. The main challenge was to understand what would motivate users to register their pets on the website and what benefits the platform could offer them.

Through user research, I discovered that pet owners needed a platform to keep track of their pet's medical history, vaccination records and appointment schedules and also access to information about the services and procedures offered by the veterinary clinic. The appfeatures a simple registration process, easy access to pet's medical records and vaccination records, ability to schedule appointments online and a services page for detailed information about the different procedures and treatments available, including pricing.
